Costs of the Jägerprüfung

The costs for the Jägerprüfung are added as a one-off:

  • Examination fee: approx. 250 EUR
  • Hunting course (voluntary): 1.500-3.000 EUR
  • Shooting range fees: approx. 200-500 EUR (for practice)
  • Course materials: approx. 50-150 EUR

Total costs for initial issue: approx. 2.000-4.000 EUR (with course) or approx. 500 EUR (without course, self-study)

Additional costs

Waffenbesitzkarte (WBK)

Once you have passed the Jägerprüfung, you can purchase hunting firearms:

  • First issue of the WBK: approx. 50-100 EUR
  • Registering a weapon: approx. 20-30 EUR

Hunting public liability insurance

Compulsory insurance for every hunter:

  • Annual contribution: approx. 50-80 EUR
  • Minimum cover: 500.000 EUR personal injury

Jagdgenossenschaft contribution

If leasing a hunting ground or holding membership:

  • Annual contribution: variable, approx. 100-500 EUR

  1. Choose a 3-year hunting licence: Cheaper per year than renewing annually
  2. Self-study: In Berlin there is no compulsory course, so it is possible to take the exam without an expensive course

Payment methods

You can pay the fees to the weapons authority in cash, by EC card or by bank transfer. For online applications, payment is made by bank transfer after the decision.
