Renew your Jagdschein in Berlin

When should you renew?

Submit the renewal application at least 4-6 W weeks before it expires of your current Jagdschein. This will help you avoid a gap in validity.

Important:You are not allowed to hunt with an expired Jagdschein. Possessing hunting weapons can also become problematic.

Online renewal

Easiest via the Berliner Serviceportal:

By post or in person

With the completed application form and all documents.

Required documents

• Current Jagdschein (original)
• Valid Personalausweis or passport
• Proof of hunting public liability insurance (currently valid)
• 1 current passport photo
• Completed renewal application

No new certificate of good conduct required for a regular renewal (except in the event of irregularities).

Renewal fees

The fees correspond to the initial issue:

Tip: The 3-year hunting licence is the cheapest per year.

Processing time

• Standard: 2-3 W weeks
• With complete documents: often faster
• Express: Not available

What happens if renewal is late?

If your hunting licence has already expired:

1. Hunting ban: You are no longer allowed to hunt
2. Weapons: Possessing hunting weapons without a valid hunting licence is problematic
3. New application: In the event of a longer break, a repeat reliability check may be required
4. No penalty: Late renewal itself is not an administrative offence

Let your hunting licence lapse

If you do not want to hunt temporarily:

• Do not apply for renewal: hunting licence expires
• Weapons: Must be stored securely or handed in
• Resuming: A new hunting licence is possible at any time (no new exam)

Special cases

Moving to Berlin

If you move to Berlin from another federal state:

• Re-registration with the weapons authority required
• Present the current hunting licence from the other federal state
• A Berlin hunting licence is issued

Loss of the hunting licence

• Report immediately to the weapons authority
• Apply for a replacement issue (approx. 20 EUR)
• Police report of loss recommended
