Hunter’s examination Bremen

Registration

• Deadline: By 31 December in the year before the examination year
• Form: In writing using the official form (§ 3 Abs. 2 JuFPrüfV)
• Minimum age: 15 Jahre (no later than 6 Monate before the examination)
• Place of residence: Main residence within the area of the hunting authority (Bremen or Bremerhaven)
• Documents: Passport photo, certificate of good conduct, proof of training

The examination takes place at least once a year.

Parts of the examination

The hunter’s examination in Bremen consists of four parts. All must be passed.

1. Shooting test

• Rifle shooting (e.g. running boar at 50m)
• Shotgun shooting at clay targets
• Minimum numbers of hits must be achieved

2. Written examination

• Duration: 3,5 hours (210 minutes)
• Scope: 140 questions (20 per subject area)
• Format: Multiple choice and open questions

3. Practical examination

• Location: In the hunting ground
• Scope: 20 questions per subject area, 30 in the subject area Hunting weapons
• Contents: Behaviour while hunting, handling of weapons, conduct after the shot

4. Oral examination

• Duration: Approx. 10 minutes per subject area
• Scope: 10 questions per subject area, 30 in the subject area Hunting weapons
• Procedure: Before the examination board

Subject areas

The examination covers seven subject areas (as set out in the JuFPrüfV and the gemeinsame Jägerprüfungsordnung für Niedersachsen/Bremen):

1. Game biology and animal species: Furred game and feathered game, game diseases, game management
2. Hunting weapons and ammunition (30 instead of 20 questions): rifles, shotguns, combination guns, optics, ballistics, safe handling
3. Hunting operations and game management: Hunting methods, hunting district organisation, hunting procedure, behaviour during group and individual hunts, conduct after the shot
4. Agriculture and forestry, prevention of game damage: Habitats, habitat design, prevention of game damage
5. Nature conservation and landscape management law: Hunting law (Bundesjagdgesetz, Landesjagdrecht, closed seasons, cull plans)
6. Animal welfare law, hunting and weapons law: Waffengesetz, Beschussrecht, safe storage, conduct on the shooting range
7. Game hygiene and meat inspection: Use of hunting dogs, field dressing, preparing, hygiene regulations, basic principles of food law

Assessment and passing

• All four parts of the examination (shooting, written, practical, oral) are graded
• Overall grades are formed from the individual grades for each subject area and examination component
• Failing key parts or serious safety-relevant errors (especially in weapon handling) lead to exclusion from the remainder of the process or failing the entire examination

Falconry examination

For the Falkner-Jagdschein, a separate falconry examination or a restricted hunting examination is required. The examination covers the subject areas relevant to falconry hunting. Young people can also take the falconry examination and obtain a Jugend-Falknerjagdschein.
