Written examination
Multiple-choice test in five subject areas (Game and other wild animal species; hunting firearms and trapping devices; nature conservation, management, hunting operations; handling of killed game, game diseases, hunting dogs, hunting traditions; hunting law, weapons law and related areas of law). In each subject area, 20 questions are selected from the official question catalogue of the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz.
Requirement to pass: The examination board assesses the answers in accordance with the requirements of the Verordnung über die Jäger- und Falknerprüfung; specific minimum scores are stored in the official question catalogues of the ML (as of July 2022).
Shooting test
Rifle (standing, supported): 5 shots at the roebuck target, 100 m, minimum score 25 rings. Rifle (running target, standing freehand): 5 shots at the yearling wild boar target, 50 m or 60 m, minimum score 2 W scoring hits. Shotgun: 15 W clay targets (max. 2 shots each), minimum score 5 hits, skeet or trap from a hunting-ready stance.
Skeet: stands 2, 6 and 7 as single birds. Sights/optics for the rifle disciplines can be chosen freely.
Registering for the examination
- Registration deadline: Specific state-wide registration deadlines are not standardised. Registrations are made via the Untere Jagdbehörde or in cooperation with recognised hunting schools, which organise group registrations for the examination. Direct registration without a hunting school is not possible.
- Register with: Untere Jagdbehörde of the respective Landkreis or independent city; registration in cooperation with hunting schools registered with and recognised by the LJV.
