Responsibility

Untere Jagdbehörde (Kreisverwaltungsbehörde / Landratsamt or city administration of the independent city)

Compile the documents: Prepare the completed renewal application, the existing Jagdschein booklet in the original, the current insurance confirmation and, if applicable, proof of participation in a practice shoot.
Submit the application: Submit the application by post, online (provided your Jagdbehörde offers an online service) or in person by appointment at the responsible untere Jagdbehörde; many Landratsämter prefer submission by post.
Pay the fee and receive your Jagdschein: Pay the renewal fee (e.g. 60 € for the annual Jagdschein in Landkreis München) and receive the renewed Jagdschein; if it expires without interruption, processing is generally quicker than for a first-time application.

Application for the issue/renewal of a Jagdschein, fully completed
Existing Jagdschein booklet in the original (to be submitted by post)
Confirmation of hunting third-party liability insurance for the period of validity applied for
Proof of participation in a practice shoot (only required for a repeat application)
Current passport photo (only if there is no free renewal field available any more)
Signature of a parent or guardian or declaration of consent (only for a Jugendjagdschein)

Varies depending on the authority

Report the loss: If your Jagdschein is lost or stolen, report it without delay to the local police station and contact the responsible untere Jagdbehörde.
Apply for a duplicate copy: Fill in the specific form for replacing the Jagdschein and submit it together with a current passport photo to the responsible untere Jagdbehörde.
Receive the duplicate copy: After the application has been checked and the fee of 20 € has been paid, you will receive the duplicate copy of the Jagdschein.

Jugendjagdschein is available from the age of 16 Jahre.
Hunting only when accompanied by a parent or guardian or a hunting-experienced person authorised in writing by them (§ 15 Abs. 7 BJagdG).
When registering for the Jägerprüfung, a written declaration of consent from the legal representative is required.
When renewing the Jugendjagdschein, the signature of a parent or guardian or a declaration of consent in the form is required.
Fee for the Jugendjagdschein: 37,50 € (of which 12,50 € Jagdabgabe) – example: Landkreis München.

Non-German nationals who wish to hunt in Germany require an Ausländerjagdschein issued in Germany.
People resident outside Germany who apply for a Tagesjagdschein or Falknertagesjagdschein must provide a hunting invitation as well as the Jagdschein from the competent authority at their main place of residence abroad.
