Renew step by step
- Prepare the application early: Prepare the renewal in good time before the end of the hunting year (31 March). Gather all required documents: renewal application, hunting licence booklet, proof of insurance and, if applicable, proof of a practice shoot.
- Submit the application: Submit the fully completed application with all documents by post, online via the Niedersachsen Serviceportal, or in person to the competent Untere Jagdbehörde. Passport photos and the hunting licence booklet must be enclosed in the original when submitted by post.
- Receive the renewed hunting licence: Once the authority has processed it, you will receive the renewed hunting licence; in many cases, personal collection is possible or required.

- Fully completed and signed application for renewal
- Hunting licence booklet (previous hunting licence) in the original
- Proof of adequate hunting public liability insurance
- Proof of participation in a practice shoot (only required for a subsequent application)
- If applicable, 2 passport photos if a new hunting licence booklet is issued
- If applicable, certificate for a reduced hunting licence (e.g. forestry officials)
Processing time

In the event of loss or theft
- Report the loss to the Untere Jagdbehörde: Inform the competent Untere Jagdbehörde immediately about the loss or theft of your hunting licence.
- Apply for reissue: Apply for reissue of the hunting licence and submit the required documents: identity card, passport photos, proof of insurance and, if applicable, hunter’s examination certificate.
- Receive a new hunting licence: After the authority has checked your application, a new hunting licence will be issued to you; ask your competent Untere Jagdbehörde for details of the procedure.

Special provisions
Young people
- Young people aged 16 Jahre can apply for a youth hunting licence.
- The youth hunting licence is subject to special restrictions: hunting is only permitted when accompanied by an experienced hunter who has been named.
- The standard annual hunting licence is only available from the age of 18 Jahre.
Foreign nationals
- People without a German place of residence who apply for a daily hunting licence or daily falconry hunting licence must present an invitation to hunt and the hunting licence issued by the competent authority at their main place of residence abroad.
- If you do not have German citizenship, an Ausländerjagdschein may be an option.
Students
- Forestry students can apply for a reduced-fee hunting licence and must provide a certificate of enrolment.
