Renew your Jagdschein in Rheinland-Pfalz

Step-by-step renewal

  1. Gather documents: Have your existing Jagdschein, the current proof of hunting liability insurance and, if applicable, a current photograph ready.
  2. Submit application: Submit the renewal application to the Untere Jagdbehörde responsible for your place of residence, in person, by post or online via the service portal (if offered by the authority).
  3. Pay fees and receive Jagdschein: Pay the renewal fee (17,00 € to 32,00 € plus five times the Jagdabgabe depending on the period of validity) and receive the renewed Jagdschein; hunting may not be carried out until it has been issued.

Required documents

  • Identity card or passport as a copy or photo
  • Application for renewal of the Jagdschein
  • Existing Jagdschein (if renewing in the existing Jagdschein booklet, to be submitted by post)
  • Proof of statutory hunting liability insurance
  • If applicable, current photograph (if required by the authority)
  • If applicable, proof of participation in a practice shoot (for a repeat application)

In the event of loss or theft

  1. Report loss and submit application: Contact the Untere Jagdbehörde responsible for your place of residence and apply for a replacement Jagdschein in writing, in person or online.
  2. Submit required documents: Submit your identity card or passport as well as a current photograph to the authority.
  3. Receive replacement Jagdschein: After processing and payment of the fee (22,00 € plus five times the Jagdabgabe), you will receive the replacement Jagdschein with the remaining validity of the original Jagdschein.

Special rules

Young people

  • Youth Jagdschein for persons from 16 up to under 18 Jahre.
  • Hunting only in the company of a person with parental responsibility.
  • The validity period of the youth Jagdschein is a maximum of 2 consecutive hunting years.
  • Administrative fee is 8,50 € to 13,50 € depending on the period of validity; plus Jagdabgabe amounting to five times the fee.

Foreign nationals

  • For foreign nationals without proof of a German hunting examination, an Ausländerjagdschein (Tagesjagdschein für Ausländer) is generally an option.
  • For the Tagesjagdschein or Falknertagesjagdschein, a hunting invitation and the Jagdschein from the competent authority of your main residence abroad must be submitted.
  • Without a German place of residence, no regular annual Jagdschein is issued.

Students

  • Students of forestry must submit a certificate of enrolment.
  • Those employed in the forestry service must submit a certificate from their employer.
