The responsible authority is the lower hunting authority of the rural district or district-free city at your place of residence. To determine the specific authority: open it, enter your place of residence and select the desired matter.

Step by step to a hunting licence

1. Find and register with a hunting school: Look for a hunting school registered and recognised with the Landesjagdverband Sachsen-Anhalt (LJV), because in Sachsen-Anhalt only participants reported by such schools are admitted to the hunters’ examination. Direct registration for the examination is not possible.
2. Complete hunting training: Complete the full hunting training course at the chosen hunting school, which covers all examination subjects (game studies, wildlife management, ecology, hunting dogs, game handling, hunting weapons, hunting law) as well as hunting shooting.
3. Examination registration by the hunting school: The hunting school registers you for the hunters’ examination with the responsible lower hunting authority. Note the registration deadlines set by the rural districts.
4. Take the hunters’ examination: Take all three parts of the examination: hunting shooting (rifle, shotgun, handgun), written examination (questionnaire per subject) and oral-practical examination (7 subjects, each max. 15 minutes). The examination fee is 250,00 €.
5. Apply for the hunting licence: After passing the examination, submit the application for the issue of the hunting licence to the lower hunting authority of your district of residence or the district-free city. Submit all required documents (application, hunters’ examination certificate, proof of insurance, certificate of good conduct, passport photos, ID card).
6. Receive the hunting licence: After the documents have been checked and a reliability check carried out (processing time approx. 8–10 W weeks), you will receive the hunting licence in person at the authority or by post. If you apply online, you collect it on site.

Can I register directly for the Jägerprüfung in Sachsen-Anhalt?
