Written exam
20 questions per subject area, total duration 180 minutes; mainly open questions, some multiple choice. Subject areas: wildlife biology, wildlife management, hunting operations, prevention of wildlife and hunting damage, agriculture and forestry, weapons law and weapons technology, hunting dogs and game meat hygiene, hunting law.
Pass requirement: The exam is failed if the minimum grade thresholds are not met in core subjects (in particular wildlife biology and weapons law) or the overall average is worse than 4.
Shooting test
Rifle (bullet): 5 shots standing supported, at the DJV roe buck target at 100 m; pass: at least 3 hits in rings 3–10, minimum score 21 rings. Shotgun (shot): 10 W clay pigeons (trap); pass: at least 3 clay pigeons hit.
In addition, safe handling of the weapon is tested (loading/unloading, safety check, barrel check, behaviour on the range). Order: written part → shooting test → oral practical part.
Registering for the exam
- Registration deadline: Specific registration deadlines are not published uniformly across the state; they result from the Jägerprüfungsverordnung and the exam dates announced by the untere Jagdbehörden.
