Renew step by step

  1. Gather documents: Prepare your existing Jagdschein, up-to-date proof of hunting liability insurance and, where applicable, a current photo and a certificate of good conduct.
  2. Submit application: Submit the completed renewal application with all documents by post, in person or, where available, online to the responsible untere Jagdbehörde in your district of residence.
  3. Receive renewal: After the application and reliability check have been reviewed, the Jagdschein is stamped, extended by further hunting years, or a new document is issued.

Required documents

  • Identity card or passport as a copy or photo
  • Existing Jagdschein (to be renewed)
  • Proof of hunting third-party liability insurance for the entire extension period
  • Current passport photo (if a new hunting licence booklet is required)
  • If applicable, certificate of good conduct (as part of the reliability check)

Processing time

In the event of loss or theft

  1. Inform the Untere Jagdbehörde: Report the loss of the hunting licence immediately to the responsible Untere Jagdbehörde in your district of residence, as hunting without a valid document is not permitted.
  2. Submit an application for a replacement Jagdschein: Submit an application to the authority for the issue of a duplicate or replacement Jagdschein with the required documents (ID card, proof of insurance).
  3. Receive the replacement Jagdschein: Once the authority has processed it, you will receive the replacement Jagdschein and can legally hunt again.

Special rules

Young people

  • A youth Jagdschein is possible from 16 Jahren, provided the hunting examination has been passed.
  • Hunting is only permitted when accompanied by an experienced person entitled to supervise; independent hunting is excluded.
  • For minors, the consent of those with parental responsibility may be required for registration for the examination.
  • According to the Norderstedt schedule of fees, the youth Jagdschein (annual licence) is valid for up to 2 hunting years.

Foreign nationals

  • For foreign hunters without a German place of residence, responsibility for the Jagdschein lies with the authority in whose area the hunting is to take place (§ § 15 BJagdG).
  • The City of Flensburg issues Jagdscheine to foreign hunting guests only if there is an invitation, a Begehungsschein or a lease in a Flensburg hunting district.
  • For persons without a German place of residence who apply for a Tagesjagdschein or Falknertagesjagdschein, a hunting invitation and the Jagdschein of the main place of residence abroad must be submitted.
  • Without German citizenship, an Ausländerjagdschein may be an option.

Students

  • Forestry students must provide a certificate of enrolment.
  • People in the forestry service must submit a certificate from their employer.
