Find a BAFA energy advisor: the official list

Updated:

Short answer

For BAFA energy advice on residential buildings you need an approved advisor. You find that person on the energy-efficiency expert list for federal funding programmes. The German Energy Agency operates this list under the name dena.

How to search the list

You open the energy-efficiency expert list and choose the residential buildings category. You enter your postcode and choose a search radius around that location. Available distances are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or 250 kilometres.

Who counts for the grant

Since 1 July 2023 BAFA funds advice only from listed experts in the matching category. The listing must appear under the residential buildings category Wohngebäude. If the name is not in that category, the advice does not count for EBW.

Apply before you commission

You submit the application before the project starts in the BAFA portal. In the portal you choose Neuer Antrag and complete the form. The project starts when you sign a contract for the energy advice. You therefore commission the advisor only after you submit the application.

Advisor number in the portal

In the BAFA portal you enter the advisor number from the dena list. That number is the dena customer number with the prefix EB in front. You check the number directly in the listing of the chosen advisor.

Grant and costs

The grant amount is not shown on the expert list itself. You find the current EBW rates in the article on costs and the iSFP. That page lists the official BAFA figures for the advice fee.
