Wallbox funding 2026: check the funding route for multi-occupancy buildings

Updated:

Short answer

The federal scheme "Laden im Mehrparteienhaus" has been running since 15.04.2026. It supports charging infrastructure in and on existing multi-occupancy buildings with at least three residential units.

Depending on the equipment, up to 1.300 EUR per parking space to be electrified is available for pre-cabling, up to 1.500 EUR with a charging point, or up to 2.000 EUR with a bidirectional charging point. The application must be submitted before the contract is awarded.

Who can use the funding

The programme is aimed at several groups:

  • Homeowners’ associations
  • private owners of multi-occupancy buildings
  • owners of parking spaces
  • small and medium-sized enterprises
  • companies with larger housing portfolios

For tenants, this is important: they usually do not submit the application on their own. Owners, the property management company or the WEG often need to be involved.

What is funded

It is not only individual wallboxes that are funded. The preparatory work is also relevant, so that parking spaces can be charged in future. This includes technical equipment, the grid connection and structural measures.

The eligible measures can be categorised differently depending on the programme:

  • Pre-wiring without an installed wallbox: up to 1.300 EUR
  • Pre-wiring with charging point: up to 1.500 EUR
  • Bidirectional charging point: up to 2.000 EUR

The exact funding amount depends on the application and the eligible costs.

Key requirements

The programme targets existing multi-occupancy buildings with at least three residential units. Per property, at least six parking spaces and at least 20 per cent of the existing parking spaces must be electrified or pre-wired. The charging capacity per charging point is 11 to 22 kW.

Check these points early on:

  • Number of parking spaces
  • Ownership structure
  • WEG resolution or landlord decision
  • Grid connection
  • Quote from a qualified electrical contractor
  • Timing of signing the contract

Clarify the application before placing the order

With this funding programme, timing is crucial. Do not commission installation, the grid connection or major building work before approval.

For WEG, KMU and private owners, applications have been possible since 15.04.2026 and run until 10.11.2026, as long as budget funds are available. For companies with large housing portfolios, the competitive procedure runs until 15.10.2026.

Especially with WEG and property management, preparation takes time. Plan resolutions, quotes and technical checks with sufficient lead time.

The e-car subsidy helps with the vehicle. Wallbox funding helps with charging at home. For many households, the two go together. If the vehicle is subsidised but the charging infrastructure is missing, everyday life becomes unnecessarily complicated.

Find a provider

For wallboxes you need a qualified electrical contractor who properly prepares the connection, load management and the funding documents. Compare several quotes.
