Online application
The application can be submitted online via the Berlin form:
Online application for a verkehrsrechtliche Anordnung
Submission is also possible by email, fax or post.
Process
- Preparation: Draw up a sketch or site plan and draft the application with all required details.
- Submit application: Online, by email, fax or post.
- Review by the authority: The road traffic authority checks, among other things, the length, necessity and possible traffic conflicts.
- Receive the order: The verkehrsrechtliche Anordnung is issued in writing and contains the period, conditions and costs.
- Signage: Put up no-parking signs yourself, hire them, or appoint a service provider. The signs must be put up 72 hours before the no-parking zone begins. The distance between the signs is 25 metres. The installation should be documented with photos as well as the date and time.
- Period of use: The approved no-parking zone applies only for the specified period.
- Removal: Once the approved period has ended, the signs must be removed.
Changes, extension or cancellation
If the date changes or you need an extension, you should contact the responsible authority beforehand. The no-parking zone must not be changed or extended on your own initiative.
If it is cancelled, the signs must be removed and, if applicable, the commissioned service provider must be informed.
If the zone is still occupied
Vehicles must not be removed or blocked by yourself. Keep the verkehrsrechtliche Anordnung and the documentation of the signage ready, and contact the responsible office.
Important risks and notes
If the no-parking zone is not approved or the signage is not correct, this can lead to fines or vehicles being towed away.
Document the signage well, in particular with photos as well as the date and time, so that in the event of checks or a dispute you can prove that the signs were put up properly.
Apply for the no-parking zone in good time. Even with an average processing time of around four weeks, delays can occur.
Legal basis
Straßenverkehrs-Ordnung (StVO), § 45 – Traffic signs and traffic facilities
If the authority only accepts removal companies
If the authority insists that only removal companies are allowed to submit an application, you can:
- request written clarification or justification from the responsible road traffic authority;
- refer to the official Berlin service information, according to which there are no special requirements and private applicants are also possible;
- seek legal advice if needed.
