Calculate the E-car premium 2026

Short answer

The E-car premium 2026 depends mainly on vehicle type, income and number of children. According to the key points, grants of at least 3.000 Euro and up to 6.000 Euro are possible for purely electric cars. Plug-in hybrids and range extenders may receive lower funding if they meet the requirements.

These factors determine the premium

For a realistic estimate, you need three pieces of information:

  • Is the vehicle purely electric, a plug-in hybrid or a range extender?
  • Does your household fall within the income threshold?
  • Are there children who affect the threshold and funding amount?

The calculator is particularly useful if you are comparing several vehicles. It lets you quickly see whether a lower-priced vehicle with a smaller grant may ultimately be better than a more expensive vehicle with a larger grant.

Purely electric car or plug-in hybrid

Purely electric cars are the clear main case. For plug-in hybrids and range extenders, technical requirements matter. The decisive factors are the CO2 value, electric range and the programme rules applicable in each case.

Do not rely on terms such as "hybrid" in sales brochures. A full hybrid without an external charging connection is not the same as a plug-in hybrid.

Income and children

The funding is aimed at private households with low and middle incomes. According to the key points, the threshold is 80.000 Euro gross per household. For children, it increases by 5.000 Euro per child, up to a maximum of 90.000 Euro.

This can be decisive for families. A household that would be just above the threshold without children may still fall within the funding rules with children.

When you should calculate

Do not wait until after purchase to calculate. It makes sense to calculate at three points:

  1. Before choosing a vehicle.
  2. Before signing the purchase or lease agreement.
  3. Before applying, when all documents are available.

This allows you to identify early whether a different vehicle class, another leasing offer or a later delivery date could affect the funding.

Total costs, not just the premium

A high premium is not automatically a good offer. Always compare total costs. These include the purchase price or lease payment, insurance, tax exemption, electricity costs, wallbox, maintenance and residual value.

If you charge at home, the wallbox may matter more financially than a small difference in the grant.

Find providers

Ask providers for offers that show the vehicle price, delivery time and documents relevant to funding separately. This makes comparison easier.
