Application Routes

In Person

You can submit the application directly at the Public Order Office. With complete documents, the license can be issued immediately.

By Post

Alternatively, you can send the completed application with all documents by post. The hunting license will then be mailed to you.

Prerequisites

1. Hunter's Examination passed, Proof via examination certificate
2. Minimum age 18 years, For the full hunting license (youth hunting license from age 16)
3. Reliability, Clean police clearance certificate
4. Personal suitability, No physical or mental impairments
5. Hunting liability insurance, Mandatory insurance
6. Trained hunting dog, Must be available at all times (Bremen-specific requirement)

Timeline to Obtaining a Hunting License

1. Hunting training: approx. 120 hours (3-6 months)
2. Hunter's Examination: Examination over 3 days
3. Hunting license application: Can be submitted at the Public Order Office immediately after passing the examination
4. Processing: Immediate issuance with complete documents
5. Total duration: Approximately 3-6 months from the start of training to hunting license issuance

The hunting license is valid nationwide and is issued, depending on your choice, for 1 year, 3 years, or as a day hunting license.

Types of Hunting Licenses in Bremen

The following types of hunting licenses are issued in Bremen:

• Annual hunting license -- Valid for one hunting year (1 April to 31 March)
• 3-year hunting license -- Valid for three hunting years
• Day hunting license (14-day license) -- Can be issued for 14 consecutive days, e.g. for guests or persons who hunt infrequently
• Youth hunting license -- For young people who have passed the Hunter's Examination but are not yet 18 years old; hunting is only permitted under the supervision of an experienced hunter
• Falconry hunting license -- Special hunting license for hawking with birds of prey or falcons; requires a falconry examination or restricted Hunter's Examination
• Youth falconry hunting license -- Can be issued to young people who have passed the corresponding restricted examination; hawking is only permitted under the supervision of an experienced hunter
• Replacement copy -- In case of loss or theft of the hunting license; the validity period corresponds to the originally granted period

Special Features in Bremen

• Hunting dog requirement: Under Art. 3 para. 3 of the Bremen State Hunting Act (Bremisches Landesjagdgesetz), at least one trained hunting dog must be available at all times. During search hunts, driven hunts and stalking, as well as woodcock hunting, the dog must be brought along. A hunting dog must be used for every follow-up search. Violations are administrative offences and subject to penalties.
• Proficiency test: The Bremen Hunting Association (Landesjaegerschaft Bremen) conducts the test. After passing, the dog receives a proficiency certificate.
• Cooperation with Lower Saxony: Bremen follows the joint examination regulations
