Consequences of Late Renewal
If you do not renew in time, serious consequences may follow:
- Not licensed to hunt: From 1 April, you may not hunt without a valid hunting license
- Hunting lease agreements: May lapse under section 13 BJagdG (Federal Hunting Act)
- Firearms law consequences: Your reliability may be called into question
- Measures by the Firearms Authority: Revocation and seizure are possible
- Additional costs: For a new issuance, prerequisites will be checked again
Loss of Hunting License
In case of loss or theft:
- Report the loss to the Public Order Office without delay
- A replacement copy costs 18.00 EUR
- Identity card and, if applicable, a sworn statement are required
- The replacement document takes the place of the lost hunting license -- the validity period corresponds to the originally granted period
Letting Your Hunting License Lapse
There is no formal suspension function. In practice, you can:
- Simply not apply for renewal
- The hunting license expires on 31 March
- To resume: New hunting license with a renewed check of prerequisites
Note: If you own firearms, a lapsed hunting license may affect your reliability under firearms law.
Special Cases
- Falconry hunting license: Can be issued in addition to the hunting license. Renewal carries a separate annual fee (12 EUR/year with an existing hunting license).
- Criminal proceedings and reliability: The authority may refuse renewal or impose conditions if there are doubts about reliability or suitability. Revocation and seizure are possible at any time if subsequent concerns arise.
