Hanover has submitted its municipal heat plan to the Lower Saxony Ministry for the Environment, and the council of the state capital adopted the plan on 27 March 2025, well before the statutory deadline 2026. enercity is investing more than 1 billion euros in expanding district heating and aims to generate around 75 per cent of district heating from green sources by 2027.
In Hanover, owners benefit from the proKlima fund, which provides around 6,2 million euros annually for climate-friendly heating, PV and insulation. proKlima can be combined with KfW federal funding and applies not only to Hanover, but also to the partner municipalities of Hemmingen, Laatzen, Langenhagen, Ronnenberg and Seelze.
