Responsible Authority

The Department of Roads and Traffic (Amt fuer Strassen und Verkehr, ASV) is the responsible road traffic authority for no-stopping zone permits in Bremen. Costs and Fees

The official fee for a no-stopping zone permit in Bremen is between 30 EUR and 70 EUR. The amount depends on the length of the no-stopping zone and the number of signs required. For a simple move with a short stretch, you will pay approximately 30 to 50 EUR in official fees. For larger moves with a longer zone, fees can range between 50 and 70 EUR.

In addition to the official fee, further costs arise for traffic signs. Traffic signs must be organised separately through a service provider and cost an additional approximately 150 to 250 EUR. Therefore, plan for total costs of between 180 and 320 EUR for the permit and signs combined.

Processing Time and Deadlines

Submit your application at least 14 days before the planned moving date at the authority. An early application gives you sufficient time for any queries or changes by the ASV. Express processing is not available in Bremen, so always plan for the full lead time. Begin with the application process as early as your initial move planning to avoid time pressure.

After approval, you will receive a traffic regulation order (strassenverkehrsrechtliche Anordnung) that you must keep on hand during the move. The legal basis for temporary no-stopping zones is Section 45, Paragraph 6 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO, Strassenverkehrsordnung).

Installing Signs

The no-stopping zone signs must be installed at least 72 hours before the no-stopping zone begins. It is recommended to install the signs 4 days before the moving date to be on the safe side. Document the time and location of sign installation in an installation protocol for potential evidence. After the move, you must remove the signs promptly or return them to the service provider.

When planning the zone length, consider the vehicle size. For a 7.5-tonne truck, plan a no-stopping zone of approximately 15 metres in length. For a van or smaller transporter, approximately 10 metres of zone length is usually sufficient.

For the application, you need a sketch of the zone, date and time of the move, and your contact details. If a third party submits the application on your behalf, a written authorisation is required.

Apply Yourself or Hire a Service Provider

You can submit the application yourself and organise the signs independently to save costs. For a self-application, you fill out the form, submit it online, and take care of sign rental and installation. Alternatively, you can hire a service provider who handles the entire process from application to sign removal. A service provider saves you time and effort, as they handle the application, sign rental, and documentation completely.

The cost differences between both options are considerable. Applying yourself costs only 30 to 70 EUR in official fees plus sign rental, whereas a service provider charges approximately 150 to 250 EUR in total. Choose the self-application for simple moves and a service provider for more complex projects or when under time pressure.
