5 Steps to Your Grant

   Create a BundID account

   You need a BundID account for the digital application. Registration at id.bund.de works with the online ID function (NFC-enabled smartphone required) or with an ELSTER certificate. Allow approximately 15-20 minutes.

   Tip: Check in advance whether your ID card has the online ID function activated (municipal office or citizen service center).

   Purchase or lease the vehicle

   Buy or lease an eligible vehicle from a German dealer. Full hybrids and used vehicles are not eligible. For PHEVs, the purchase contract must be completed by 30 June 2027.

   Tip: Have the dealer confirm whether the vehicle meets the CO2/range requirements for PHEV.

   Gather documents

   Prepare all required documents: purchase contract with date, vehicle registration certificate Part I, the last two income tax assessments and your IBAN. If you have children, birth certificates are also needed.

   Tip: Scan all documents as PDF in advance. A phone photo is often sufficient but must be clearly legible.

   Submit the application online

   Log in with your BundID at the responsible portal. Complete the form in full and upload all documents. Carefully review all information before submitting.

   Tip: Print or save the confirmation of receipt. It contains your application number for enquiries.

5. 5

   Receive payment

   After a positive review, the grant will be transferred to the specified IBAN. Processing time is usually 4-8 weeks. You can check the status in the online portal at any time.

   Tip: Applications are processed in order of receipt. Submit your application as early as possible.

Important Deadlines

The application must be submitted after vehicle registration, not before. Retroactive funding is excluded.
