Fine notice deadline
The appeal deadline starts when the notice is served.
Updated: May 4, 2026 · Updated
Which deadline applies?
The appeal deadline is usually two weeks from service of the fine notice. The relevant date is service, not the date printed on the notice.
If the deadline ends on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the end may move to the next working day. When unsure, react earlier.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Service | Starting point for the appeal deadline. |
| Reference number | Needed for questions and appeal. |
| Deadline end | Latest arrival at the responsible authority. |
Do not miss the deadline
The appeal must reach the authority within the deadline. Writing it on the last day is risky if delivery is delayed.
For electronic channels, follow the notice. Not every email address is suitable for a valid appeal.
After the deadline
After the deadline, the fine notice generally becomes final. The fine, points or driving ban can then be challenged only in narrow exceptions.
If the deadline was missed without fault, reinstatement may be possible and should be checked quickly.
