Renew Your Hunting License in Berlin

When to Renew?

Submit your renewal application at least 4-6 weeks before your current hunting license expires. This way you avoid a gap in validity.

Important: You are not permitted to hunt with an expired hunting license. Possession of hunting firearms may also become problematic.

Online Renewal

The easiest option is via the Berlin service portal:

By Post or In Person

With the completed application form and all documents.

Required Documents

• Current hunting license (original)
• Valid identity card or passport
• Proof of hunting liability insurance (currently valid)
• 1 current passport photo
• Completed renewal application

No new police clearance certificate required for a standard renewal (unless there are concerns).

Renewal Fees

The fees are the same as for a new license:

Tip: The 3-year hunting license is the most affordable option per year.

• Standard: 2-3 weeks
• With complete documents: often faster
• Express: Not available

What Happens If You Renew Late?

If your hunting license has already expired:

1. Hunting ban: You are no longer permitted to hunt
2. Firearms: Possessing hunting firearms without a valid hunting license is problematic
3. New application: After a longer interruption, a new reliability check may be required
4. No penalty: Late renewal itself is not an administrative offence

Letting Your Hunting License Lapse

If you do not wish to hunt temporarily:

• Do not apply for renewal: The hunting license will expire
• Firearms: Must be securely stored or surrendered
• Resumption: A new hunting license can be obtained at any time (no new examination required)

Special Cases

Moving to Berlin

If you are moving to Berlin from another federal state:

• Re-registration with the Firearms Authority is required
• Present your current hunting license from the other federal state
• A Berlin hunting license will be issued

Loss of Hunting License

• Report the loss to the Firearms Authority immediately
• Apply for a replacement (approx. 20 EUR)
• Filing a police report of the loss is recommended
