Frequently Asked Questions About the Electric Vehicle Subsidy 2026

Answers about old applications, notices, ongoing benefits, charging and provider routes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still submit a new BAFA Umweltbonus application in 2026?

No. The former BAFA Umweltbonus is no longer the open standard route for new applications. Check whether your case is an old application, a notice, GHG quota, vehicle tax, e-plate or charging infrastructure.

What should I do with an old application or notice?

Keep the case number, reference number, notice and all requests for additional documents together. Then check whether a status question, deadline, request or other follow-up is still open.

Why does the checker no longer show a subsidy figure?

A new purchase grant must not be calculated from old assumptions. The tool is now a status and route checker. It sends your case to application status, documents, GHG quota, vehicle tax, e-plate, charging or providers.

Which benefits remain relevant for electric vehicle owners?

Depending on the case, GHG quota, vehicle tax, e-plate, charging infrastructure, wallbox setup or solar charging can still matter. These routes are separate from the former purchase grant.

Is the GHG quota an official subsidy?

No. GHG quota is a separate market and provider route. Providers can support comparison and contact routing, but private payout values are not official subsidy facts.

Which documents should I collect first?

For old subsidy cases, collect the case number, notice, requests and registration data. For ongoing benefits, the vehicle registration certificate, holder data and route-specific charging or provider documents are usually more relevant.

Where can I find providers for electric vehicle topics?

Use the electric vehicle provider page. It brings together providers for the EV topic family without treating provider data as official subsidy evidence.

Which route fits charging and electricity?

For home charging, check charging infrastructure, wallbox setup, grid operator, owner or landlord approval and possibly solar charging. Public or business charging points follow different next steps.

Can an e-plate still help?

Yes. Depending on the municipality and use case, an e-plate can still be useful. Check the registration or e-plate route, not the old purchase grant.

What is the best starting point?

Start with the status checker. Then open the matching route: application and notice, documents, GHG quota, vehicle tax, e-plate, charging infrastructure or providers.

Compare providers

Use the provider page once you know whether your next step is GHG quota, charging, registration or another EV route.
