The Bremer Aufbau-Bank (BAB) state heating replacement funding programme last accepted applications on 31.08.2025 A. Bremen discontinued the funding because the federal government simultaneously increased its KfW funding to up to 70 %. Private pellet stoves in Bremen are therefore funded exclusively through KfW 458.
BAB has announced a new loan programme for autumn 2026. It is not yet available for applications.

Bremische Landesbauordnung (BremLBO)
Connecting a wood-burning stove to an existing suitable chimney is exempt from procedure as part of technical building services under § 61 BremLBO. Freestanding flue systems higher than 10 metres are excluded and require an approval procedure.
There is also a notification requirement: at least 10 W working days before construction begins, the completed form for combustion systems (Annex 5) must be submitted to the responsible district chimney sweep. The system may only be commissioned once the district chimney sweep has certified its safe usability.
Depending on its design, constructing a new chimney requires planning permission or a simplified procedure. The building control office of the municipality of Bremen or Bremerhaven is responsible.
