A pellet stove with a water jacket connected to central heating is eligible for IFB Hamburg funding only under the funding module “Solarthermie und Biomasseanlagen”, and only if a solar thermal system with a gross collector area of at least 20 m² is installed at the same time. Without this solar thermal system installed at the same time, IFB does not pay a grant for the pellet stove.
The grant is 90 EUR for each commenced square metre of gross collector area of the solar thermal system, up to a maximum of 7.500 EUR. Another requirement is that the pellet stove replaces an existing fossil-fuelled heating system and that there is no direct connection option to a heating network.
Anyone receiving the climate-speed or income bonus under federal funding (BEG EM) is not entitled to IFB funding. IFB funding can generally be combined with federal funding, but any available federal funds must be used first.
The application must be submitted through the IFB Hamburg eAntragsportal before the measure begins.

Legal obligations
Hamburgische Bauordnung (HBauO)
Connecting a wood-burning stove to an existing suitable chimney is generally possible without planning permission as technical building equipment under § 61 HBauO (projects exempt from procedure). § 63 HBauO regulates the distinct simplified planning permission procedure for other building projects.
For the construction of a new chimney, permission is generally not required if the technical requirements are met. For larger construction work, contact the building inspection department of the responsible district office.
