State funding in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The Landesförderinstitut Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LFI MV) provides an interest-free modernisation loan for residential buildings older than 10 Jahre. Eligible measures are structural modernisation measures that sustainably save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. A pellet stove may be eligible as such a measure, but individual confirmation from LFI MV is required before applying.

The loan covers up to 80 % of eligible costs, no more than 1.950 EUR per square metre of living space and a maximum of 155.630 EUR per housing unit. The loan amount must be at least 20.000 EUR. The loan is interest-free until fully repaid. After completion and review of the proof of use, you receive a repayment reduction of 25 % of the disbursed amount; thereafter, 3 % must be repaid annually.

Owner-occupiers are also eligible to apply if they comply with the income limits set by the Einkommensgrenzenverordnung. For owner-occupied residential property, a binding period of 15 Jahren applies.

The loan can be combined with other public funding, including KfW and BAFA. The total of all public grants must not exceed 80 % of total expenditure.

The application must be submitted to LFI MV before the modernisation measure begins.

Separately, since 18.12.2023 there has been a stop on accepting applications for energy-efficient modernisation to the Effizienzhausstandard 85. The general modernisation loan is not affected.

Legal obligations

Landesbauordnung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LBauO M-V)

Connecting a wood-burning stove to an existing, suitable chimney is exempt from procedure as a technical building-services installation under § 61 Abs. 1 Nr. 2 LBauO M-V. Free-standing flue systems more than 10 metres high are excluded and require an approval procedure.

Building a new chimney is generally also exempt from procedure if the technical requirements are met. Clarify larger projects in advance with the building control office of the district or district-free city.
