In Sachsen, the nationwide rules for energy advisers and funding apply. Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) supplements KfW programmes with its own grants and loans.

Staatsministerium für Energie, Klimaschutz, Umwelt und Landwirtschaft (SMEKUL)
The ministry is responsible for climate protection and state funding programmes. The GEG is implemented by Staatsministerium für Infrastruktur und Landesentwicklung (SMIL, until the end of 2024 "Staatsministerium für Regionalentwicklung") as the highest building supervisory authority.

SAB is the development bank of the Free State. It awards grants and loans for energy-efficient refurbishment and climate protection measures.

State funding in Sachsen

For private individuals, SAB offers the Sachsenkredit "Klimafreundlicher Wohnen". The loan from 20.000 EUR applies to individual measures or comprehensive refurbishment of an owner-occupied home. It comes with an interest-rate reduction and repayment grant. The building must be at least 5 Jahre old when the application is submitted.
SAB no longer pays the former grant of 300 EUR for balcony power systems. The funding guideline expired on 30 June 2026.
