Installation steps in Bremen

  1. Check the roof – the solar requirement applies to new buildings (from 01.07.2025) and refurbishments (from 01.07.2024); check the size exemption below 50 m²/25 m²
  2. Secure the swb grant (voucher code “SONNE”) and check the BAB “Photovoltaik nach Plan” loan – both before placing an order
  3. Appoint a certified specialist company
  4. Register with swb Netze – allow 4–8 Wochen
  5. Register with MaStR and have the smart meter installed
  6. Commissioning + acceptance record

Grid operator note: In Bremen, swb Netze is the sole distribution network operator for the urban area. Bremerhaven may differ – check by postcode search: solar.red/netzbetreiber

How to submit the applications

1. Feed-in application to the grid operator (swb Netze)

  1. Portal: swb.de → section “Einspeiser / Solaranlage anmelden”
  2. Complete the form: location, planned kWp capacity, type of feed-in
  3. Wait for approval – 4 Wochen deadline (up to 30 kWp); automatically approved if there is no response after 1 month
  4. Tip: The installer often handles registration – ask when requesting a quote

2. MaStR registration (Marktstammdatenregister)

  1. Portal: marktstammdatenregister.de
  2. Deadline: within 1 month of commissioning
  3. Required: system capacity (kWp), installation date, site postcode
  4. Tip: Many installers also complete the MaStR registration – clarify this in the quote

3. swb grant (“SONNE” voucher)

  1. Portal: swb.de/solar-komfort → retrieve the “SONNE” voucher code, or visit an swb customer centre
  2. Payment: after installation and payment for the system

4. “Photovoltaik nach Plan” – Bremer Aufbaubank (BAB)

Submit the application before placing the order.

  2. Documents: cost estimate, system size, proof of ownership
  3. Loan approved → then appoint the installer
