Solar installation – Sachsen

Legal basis

  • EEG 2023 – feed-in tariff and funding (federal level)
  • Solarspitzengesetz – obligation to have a smart meter and control unit for new installations from 7 kWp (since 25.02.2025); without a control unit, the grid operator permanently limits feed-in to 60 % of installed capacity
  • No state-specific solar obligation for private residential buildings

Solar obligation in Sachsen

No solar obligation for private residential buildings, neither for new builds nor existing buildings. Since 2024, a PV obligation has applied to state-owned properties as part of the Sächsisches Klima- und Energieprogramm – but this affects only state buildings and individual municipal buildings, not private owners.

Installation steps in Sachsen

  1. Check roof (orientation, structural integrity)
  2. Check state funding: SAB Sachsenkredit and the balcony power system grant have currently expired; only KfW 270 and the EEG tariff remain available
  3. Commission a certified specialist company
  4. Register with grid operator – 4–8 Wochen lead time
  5. Register in MaStR, have smart meter installed
  6. Commissioning + acceptance report

Note on grid operators: The table above shows common grid operators – it is not exhaustive. The grid operator actually responsible depends solely on the postcode . Find it using the postcode search: solar.red/netzbetreiber

How to submit the applications

1. Feed-in application to the grid operator

  1. Find the grid operator: postcode search at solar.red/netzbetreiber
  2. Online portal of the grid operator (legally required since Jan. 2025)
  3. Complete the form: location, planned kWp capacity, feed-in type
  4. Wait for approval – 4 Wochen deadline (up to 30 kWp); automatically approved if there is no response after 1 month
  5. Tip: Installer often handles registration – ask when requesting a quote

2. MaStR registration (Marktstammdatenregister)

  1. Portal: marktstammdatenregister.de
  2. Deadline: within 1 month after commissioning
  3. Required: installation capacity (kWp), installation date, site postcode
  4. Tip: Many installers also complete the MaStR registration – clarify in the quote

3. KfW 270 (federal level – currently the only funding in Sachsen)

  1. Apply via your bank.
  2. Portal: kfw.de/270
  3. Submit the application before placing the order
  4. Ask SAB about a possible relaunch of Sachsenkredit
