The central office is located at the Potsdam, Medienstadt site (Großbeerenstraße 181-183, 14482 Potsdam). The departmental management, the Planning, Management and Training Unit (APSA), the Market Surveillance and Legal Unit (AMR), and the Occupational Medical Service (AGA) are based there.
Regional offices (notifications and approvals)
For notifications and approvals, the regional office at the location of the construction site or registered business office is responsible. All five regional offices share a telephone number, the Arbeitsschutztelefon.

2. Specialist contractor approval (high risk)
Required for demolition and remediation work involving loosely bound asbestos (friable).
Apply online or by PDF to LAVG. Forms at lavg.brandenburg.de/lavg/de/antraege.
Documents:
- Evidence of technical equipment in accordance with TRGS 519, Anlage 8
- Evidence of a competent person (valid certificate of competence)
- Evidence of the employer’s reliability
- Employees’ occupational medical precaution certificates
- Risk assessment
Fees: Approval costs depend on the effort involved; no fixed flat rate is publicly stated.
3. A Notification requirement
All commercial activities involving asbestos must be notified.

4. Disposal
Brandenburg-specific feature: If the disposal company complies with the allocation criteria under the Deponieverordnung, it may deliver asbestos waste to landfill sites outside mono-disposal areas in loose bulk form. This reduces disposal costs compared with other federal states.
Small quantities (households / small businesses): The districts and independent cities are responsible through their recycling centres and municipal hazardous-waste collections.
Larger quantities (specialist contractors): Approved specialist waste-disposal companies with consignment note (AVV 17 06 01*). Hazardous-waste coordination is handled by SBB Sonderabfallgesellschaft Brandenburg/Berlin mbH, PF 601352, 14413 Potsdam, telephone 0331 2793-27. SBB maintains a list of stationary disposal facilities for asbestos waste in Brandenburg and Berlin. Landfill class I accepts firmly bound asbestos. Landfill class III or a hazardous-waste landfill accepts loosely bound asbestos.
5. Special features
- LAVG instead of LAS: Earlier sources referred to the authority as “LAS”. The correct name since the renaming is LAVG.
- Five regional offices: Eberswalde, Frankfurt (Oder), Cottbus, Neuruppin and Potsdam-Bornim, together with the central Potsdam-Medienstadt office, cover the largest federal state by area without Berlin.
- Loose-bulk exception: Under certain conditions, Brandenburg permits landfill delivery in loose bulk form. This reduces disposal costs.
- SBB as coordinator: Sonderabfallgesellschaft Brandenburg/Berlin coordinates hazardous-waste disposal for both states.
- Online notification: Fully digital application via the LAVG portal is possible.
