Asbestos remediation - Saxony
1. Responsible authority
Landesdirektion Sachsen (LDS), Department 5, Arbeitsschutz und Marktüberwachung.
Note: Earlier sources listed the authority as "LIA Sachsen" (Landesinspektorat für Arbeitsschutz). The correct designation is Landesdirektion Sachsen, Department 5.
LDS has four offices, each with its own area of responsibility.

2. Specialist company approval (high risk)
Required for demolition and remediation work involving weakly bound asbestos (friable).
Apply to the responsible occupational safety department of LDS at the company headquarters. Online or as a PDF via Amt24. LDS publishes a list of all approved specialist companies at arbeitsschutz.sachsen.de.
Documents:
- Proof of technical equipment in accordance with TRGS 519, Anlage 8
- Proof of competent person (valid certificate of competence)
- Proof of employer reliability
- Employees’ occupational medical examination records
- Risk assessment
Fees: Approval is charged according to the work involved; no fixed flat fee is publicly stated.
3. A Notification requirement
All commercial activities involving asbestos are subject to notification.

The approval notice is subject to a fee.
4. Disposal
Small quantities (households / small businesses): the districts and independent cities are responsible through their municipal waste management associations.
Example ZAW (Zweckverband Abfallwirtschaft Westsachsen): Materials containing asbestos must be airtight-packed, in tear-resistant film, refuse sacks or special big bags.
Larger quantities (specialist companies): Approved specialist waste-disposal companies with consignment note (AVV 17 06 01*). Landfill class I accepts firmly bound asbestos. Landfill class III or a special landfill accepts loosely bound asbestos.
