Balcony solar systems in Coesfeld: funding and application

Overview

Balcony solar systems are small photovoltaic installations for plug sockets. They are also called plug-in solar devices or mini PV systems. The City of Coesfeld supports plug-in solar devices by up to 0,8 kW through its Klimaschutzfonds 2026.

Funding in Coesfeld

The increased funding applies to households receiving Bürgergeld, social assistance, basic income support in old age or housing benefit.

Measures from 1 January 2026. onwards are eligible. Each household may submit no more than one application. As a rule, the application is submitted after purchase and payment, although funds can also be reserved in advance.

Applications run until 31 December 2026, as long as the fund's total budget of 50.000 EUR is sufficient for all climate protection measures combined.

State and federal funding

North Rhine-Westphalia had a state programme for solar installations called progres.nrw. The state has since discontinued this programme. Since January 2023, the zero VAT rate for private photovoltaic installations has applied nationwide. Tenants' rights

Under § 554 BGB, tenants are entitled to install a plug-in solar device. Landlords may not impose a blanket ban on installation. They may set reasonable conditions, for example concerning the type of mounting. Tenants can also apply for the Klimaschutzfonds.

Registration with the grid operator

The grid operator in Coesfeld is Stadtwerke Coesfeld. Since Solarpaket I, separate registration with the grid operator is no longer required. The grid operator receives the information automatically through the Marktstammdatenregister.
