Balcony solar systems in Menden: funding and application

Overview

Balcony solar systems are small photovoltaic systems for plug sockets. They are also called plug-in solar devices or mini PV systems. In Menden, there is no municipal funding, but a customer funding programme from Stadtwerke Menden GmbH for naturliebeStrom customers.

Funding in Menden

Eligible are naturliebeStrom customers of Stadtwerke Menden. New customers can switch to naturliebeStrom within 14 Tagen of the purchase date and also receive the funding. Stadtwerke funds only one plug-in system or solar panel per household, and the system may produce no more than 800 VA.

The funding runs each year until 30 November, provided funds have not been exhausted earlier. Stadtwerke approves applications in order of receipt, without legal entitlement. Check the current budget status directly on the Stadtwerke website before applying.

Local providers

State and federal funding

North Rhine-Westphalia had a state programme for solar installations called progres.nrw. The state has now discontinued this programme. Nationwide, the zero VAT rate for private photovoltaic systems has applied since January 2023. Tenants’ rights

Under § 554 BGB, tenants are entitled to install a plug-in solar device. Landlords may not impose a blanket ban on installation. They may impose reasonable conditions, for example concerning the type of mounting.

Registration with the grid operator

The grid operator in Menden is Stadtwerke Menden GmbH. Since Solarpaket I, separate registration with the grid operator is no longer required. The grid operator receives the information automatically via the Marktstammdatenregister.
