Overview

Balcony solar systems are small photovoltaic systems for plug sockets. They are also known as plug-in solar devices or mini PV systems. The City of Aalen has funded them with a flat-rate grant since January 2024.

Funding in Aalen

All private individuals resident in the City of Aalen are eligible, regardless of whether they are owners or tenants. The system's rated output must be clearly evident from its registration in the Marktstammdatenregister.

State and federal funding

Baden-Württemberg has no separate state programme for balcony solar systems. Since January 2023, the zero VAT rate for private photovoltaic systems has applied nationwide. Tenants' rights

Under § 554 BGB, tenants are entitled to install a plug-in solar device. Landlords may not impose a blanket ban on installation. They may impose reasonable conditions, for example on the type of mounting. Tenants can also apply for Aalen funding.

Registration with the grid operator

The grid operator in Aalen is Stadtwerke Aalen GmbH. Since Solarpaket I, separate registration with the grid operator is no longer required. The grid operator receives the information automatically through the Marktstammdatenregister.
