Balcony solar systems in Munich: funding and application

Overview

Balcony solar systems are small photovoltaic systems for plug sockets. They are also called plug-in solar devices or mini PV systems. The Landeshauptstadt München funds them through the Förderprogramm Klimaneutrale Gebäude (FKG).

Funding in Munich

For 400 Wp, the funding amounts to 160 EUR, and for 800 Wp up to 320 EUR. Eligible costs include the purchase price, installation and mounting costs, as well as jointly purchased storage. Operators must use the system for at least ten years; if they move away from Munich, they must repay the grant proportionately.

Submit the application before purchase, as an invoice date before the application is submitted will result in rejection. Once approved in the funding portal, you have one year for purchase, installation and proof of use.

Local providers

State and federal funding

Bavaria has no separate state programme for balcony solar systems. Since January 2023, the zero VAT rate has applied nationwide to private photovoltaic systems. Tenants' rights

Under § 554 BGB, tenants are entitled to install a plug-in solar device. Landlords may not impose a blanket ban on installation. They may set reasonable conditions, for example regarding the type of mounting. The landlord's consent is not needed for the FKG application, but it is needed for the installation itself.

Registration with the grid operator

The grid operator in Munich is SWM Infrastruktur GmbH (Stadtwerke München). Since Solarpaket I, separate registration with the grid operator is no longer required. The grid operator receives the information automatically through the Marktstammdatenregister.
