Balcony solar systems in Pforzheim: funding and application

Overview

Balcony solar systems are small photovoltaic installations for plug sockets. They are also called plug-in solar devices or mini PV systems. In Pforzheim there are two separate funding routes: a municipal funding programme and a climate bonus from Stadtwerke Pforzheim.

Funding in Pforzheim

Private house and flat owners, tenants and hereditary building-right holders are eligible to apply for the municipal programme. In 2024, there were around 100 A applications, and the city approved almost all of them.

The Stadtwerke climate bonus is available to customers with an ongoing SWP-MaxNatur or SWP-MaxPlus electricity or gas contract with a minimum term of 24 Monate. Both funding routes can be applied for independently of each other.

State and federal funding

Baden-Württemberg has no separate state programme for balcony solar systems. Since January 2023, the zero VAT rate for private photovoltaic systems has applied nationwide. Tenants' rights

Under § 554 BGB, tenants have a right to install a plug-in solar device. Landlords may not impose a blanket ban on installation. They may set reasonable conditions, for example regarding the type of mounting. Tenants can also use both funding routes in Pforzheim.

Registration with the grid operator

The grid operator in Pforzheim is SWP Stadtwerke Pforzheim GmbH & Co. KG. Since Solarpaket I, separate registration with the grid operator is no longer required. The grid operator receives the information automatically through the Marktstammdatenregister.
